We spent the Thanksgiving holiday with family in Hilton Head, South Carolina. These photos are not from the home garden but from the beautiful arrangement on the festive table.
This is a special holiday because in America it is the 4th Thursday in November and that long weekend means that most Americans spend it with family. The meal is most associated with turkey, vegetable casseroles and for dessert pecan or pumpkin pie. Here in the American South, we favor turkey, squash casserole, cornbread dressing and pecan pie.
Yesterday’s table was adorned with fresh cut local flowers. I photographed them and present them to you for your pleasure.
I will be posting these on the Six on Saturday sight tomorrow. Come join us if you are able. Jim Stephens hosts us. The link is https://gardenruminations.co.uk/

The zinnias were still very beautiful. The Helianthus is unnamed but it is a looker.

The last 3 are a chrysanthemum, another sunflower and the back yard of our lodging in South Carolina.
We are returning home today and I hope to join you again next Friday with photos of my yard.

Lovely, glad you got to spend time with your family.
Nice pics from South Carolina where the sun was shining !
Thank you for sharing the flowers with us, it must have been a good time to share with your family.
Lovely colourful flowers. Such different weather to ours!
We typically have turkey, wild rice stuffing, potatoes and gravy, of course, some kind of green vegetable, and some kind of winter squash gratin. Don’t forget the cranberries! I always associate cranberries with Massachusetts, however Wisconsin produces more than half of the US cranberry supply. My husband finds pecan pie too sweet, and while we would both tuck into a slice of pumpkin pie if you served it to us, we often skip dessert when it is just the two of us. Sad to think I will not be making turkey soup today! The weather here has gotten decidedly chilly. We won’t be above freezing for a few days and then, only just.
The cranberry relishes are my favorite for thanksgiving. Since corn bread dressing is a Southern staple we often have a giblet or brown gravy to go with it. Our special indulgence for the season is fruit cake cookies or fruit cake(Grandma’s from Omaha is the best).
I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday with family. The fresh flowers on your table are lovely.
Thank you for sharing the pretty flowers. Glad to hear that you and your family had a lovely holiday together. We didn’t do a family dinner this year because the husband was away on a work trip and a few people were sick, but usually my Finnish family enjoys when we throw one because few things are as impressive as a giant roast turkey 🙂 I’m going to have to try some southern-style sides one of these days — the recipes always sound so good but then I end up in too much of a hurry once preparations start to learn anything new! Creamed spinach and pumpkin pie are my go-tos, but green bean casserole has been getting some requests lately…
Thanksgiving feasts are my favorite gatherings here in the American South. Southern style cooking is so delicious. It is a blend of soul, creole, British, African (Gullah) and simple country. I grew up in Canada and migrated here almost 50 years ago. I bring my mother’s Eastern European style cabbage rolls.
Oh gosh, I love cabbage rolls too 😂 Really, I might just be a fan of food…
