The summer heat continues so the drill is to take care of gardening tasks in the morning. The rainfall has been sufficient and watering is only needed by the containers and window boxes. The summer blooms have been magnificent.
Last week, the two of us spent a grand time in the mountains of North West Georgia. Some mountain people might call them “cute hills” but they were grand. The constant breezes and lower humidity were especially welcome.
Its back to Birmingham now and the high temperatures and high humidity.

I have shown the Rudbeckia earlier this summer but this gorgeous cluster of golden blooms is worth seeing again. Winter takes a high toll on this cultivar but this one has done exceptionally well.
The Tithonia is a show stopper. It is four feet tall and a favorite of pollinators.
The Casa Blanca is near its peak. This is a clump of about 6 tall stems now. Each bears 3 or 4 blooms and I have finally devised a satisfactory method of staking that displays them well.
I am showing you this zinnia because it is a volunteer that came up amongst the “Black and Blue” Salvia. The contrast is very eye catching.
Butterfly Milkweed
The pollinators love this milkweed. I have not seen a Monarch cat or adult on it yet. I will start checking regularly for eggs.
This hosta has become quite large and showy. Its leaf color and markings really do justify its name. The blooms are beautiful this year.

Good luck with this heat wave which is hitting many people. Here in Northern Europe/France, we are abnormally apart for the moment but the heat should arrive soon… as very August month. For this week, I enjoyed seeing the very pretty tithonia flowers again because my seedlings failed this year
Lovely Lily. We’ve had a week of rain, which was a relief from all the watering. I was collecting as much rain as I could to help refill the tanks.
We have had consistent rain here but it is hot. I am considering a rain water collection system though.
A great vibrant selection. Tithonia is a plant I should definitely consider adding to my garden.
Nice selections. I had an allotment when I first moved to Wisconsin and a woman had a neat row of tall zinnias along her fenceline. They were so colorful and thick with bees. I have had one lonely monarch caterpillar this year. On the A incarnata, the only feeding evidence is clearly from milkweed beetle. My one caterpillar was on the A verticillata. Nothing but a single lonely milkweed bug there. I saw so many last year and now? Well, I just have to keep my fingers crossed.
Zinnias are a favorite of mine. They are always covered with skippers, bees of all types and butterflies.
Rudbeckia “Indian Summer” is such a lovely bright plant it’s always a pleasure to see it again. The same applies to the Tithonia and Zinnia. 😊
Lovely six. I always like seeing Tithonias… I only managed to get two seedlings going this year and they are not flowering yet!
